What is a Recovery Specialist?
Recovery Specialist’s actively collaborate with a client’s recovery team including professionals, paraprofessionals, family members and loved ones, to provide an appropriate and effective treatment plan for overall well-being. This gives the client much needed structure and support. A recovery specialist works on S.M.A.R.T. goals to create an Action Plan: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound. The goal is to increase a client’s recovery capital; tools and resources.
We start by establishing clinical support including a psychiatrist, therapist and outpatient programs as needed. We establish a clean, safe and sober living environment. We mentor healthy self-care routines and daily living skills. We collaborate and guide clients as they seek education, employment and/or volunteering. We advocate a daily pattern of recovery-based activities. We guide clients as they learn how to have fun in sobriety. We collaborate to create a relapse prevention plan of action. We identify relapse behaviors and high-risk situations, monitor threats to relapse and make adjustments as needed.
Most importantly, we report the clients progress to each member of their community of support, regularly. This creates a smooth continuum of care as the client transitions from in-patient treatment to independent living and a life of autonomy.
